Politics and Political Parties of Papua New Guinea

Do you know how many political parties are there in Papua New Guinea? Though small Papua New Guinea has over thirty plus parties and still growing. In 2010 two new Political Parties came into the scene. One of strong Human Rights avocate and now Governor of NCD Honorable Powes Parkop (Social Democratic Party and former Ombudsman Ila Geno (PNG Constitutional Democratic Party). Though Parkop’s Party is registered under the Registry of Political Parties and Candidates Commission, the Registrar of Political Parties recognizes Hon Parkop as an Independent Candidate. Since the decision on the Organic Law in relations to Political Parties was handed down in mid year 2010 there have been movements into other parties. According to the website you would be surprise to see who have moved to and fro. United Resource party has 4 members joining them, Puri Ruing(Dei Open), James Lagea(Kagua Erave Open), Steven Prika(South Bougainville) and Kondo Patrick(Daulo Open). Belden Namah(Vanimo Green) is the New leader for PNG Party taking over the reign of Sir Mekere Morauta(Moresby North West). Other members yet to be recognized by the Registrar are: Thomas Harokaqveh(Goroka Open), Fransis Awesa(Imbogu Open), Ferao Orimyo(Henganofi Open), Fr John Garia(Chimbu Regional), Suckling Tamanabai,(Oro Regional) Dr Sir Puka Temu(Abau Open), Koni Iguan(Markam Open) and Moses Manwau(Wewak Open) .
