NBC Celebrates 50 Years of Broadcasting

The week long celebrations leading up to the 50th anniversary on the 1st of December 2023 began on the 27th of November at the broadcast house at 5 mile, Port Moresby. Activities on the first day included a convoy of floats around the city and fun fill activities and entertainment for both young and old during the day and later in the evening was the switching on of the Christmas lights by the Governor of NCD, Hon Powes Parkop. 

The second day included a mix of music and traditional dances from various regions of the country  followed by live band entertaining the crowd the next day. Appearance from artists included Junior Insects, Kwikila Stringband, Helgas, Archie Tarzy, Basil Greg and Pati Pots Doi to name a few.  On Thursday the public were given the opportunity to tour the facilities and see first hand how NBC broadcast nationwide. The activities ended on a high note on Friday morning where VIPS and guest witnessed the unveiling of a Plague by the Hon Minister for Information and communication Hon Timothy Masiu and speeches by the special guest and later on in the evening with a gala dinner at APEC House and at Ela Beach.

NBC Launch new Medium Wave Transmitter

The National Broadcasting Corporate (NBC) has launched its MW transmitter on the 20th of October 2023 giving a wider transmission coverage in the Southern Region. This is the second MW Transmitter to be launched after the first was in the Eastern Highlands Province (EHP) in Goroka for the Highlands region. The AM band is 585 Khz and 900 Khz.

The next transmitter will be for the New Guinea Islands (NGI) region in East New Britain (ENB) province followed by the Momase region in Lae, Morobe Province. The AM Band has a wide coverage compared to the FM band however NBC will also install SW to cover the whole country in the future as announced by the Minister for Information and Telecommunication Hon Timothy Masiu
