The 2011 OLIPPAC conference staged in Kokopo, East New Britain was a success. This conference witnessed the passing of the Kokopo Communiqué. The Communique means that there will be some amendment to the OLIPPAC law (download the here or visit www.ippcc.gov.pg). In October 2010 saw the Supreme Court nullifying some sections of OLIPPAC unconstitutional. One section which implies the restrictive movement of MPs to different parties was struck out. OLIPPAC was originally introduced to stabilize the government. The result was a two term parliament for the current government since 2002. The 4 day workshop brought together academics from Australia as well as a delegation from Vanuatu. Other NGOs included UN Women etc. The Workshop was opened by the Hon Leo Dion, Governor For East New Britain Province (ENBP) also were attended by states man including former Governor General, Sir Paulius Matane, former Prime Minister Sir Rabbie Namaliu and LLG Presidents of ENBP. Other notable figures included the former Ombudsman, Ila Geno, Prof Ted Wolfer from the Wollongong University, Dr Ray Anere, Dr Alphonse Gelu, and political party executives from around the country.
